MOAAIDD 2017 Fall Conference
One day session (10am-3:30pm)
September 19 – Independence – Stoney Creek Inn, 18011 Bass Pro Drive

Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) is focused on the concept that communities are healthier, safer, and stronger when all people are offered an opportunity to discover and share their gifts. In a world where people with disabilities are often labeled in terms of what they cannot do, ABCD helps people recognize that communities benefit from their contributions. While ABCD may result in the natural development of informal supports in communities, the real purpose of ABCD is to strengthen the relationships between people while building stronger communities where all people can have meaningful roles.

Discussion and tools related to these ABCD principles will be provided:
* Everyone has gifts
* Relationships build a community
* Citizens are at the center
* Leaders involve others People care
* People listen
* People ask
* Organization is inside-out
* Institutions serve the community

People with disabilities, self-advocates,
family members, direct support professionals, support coordinators, agency administrators, community members

Presented by
Deb Wisniewski, CEO of Sharing Common Ground & Faculty at the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) Institute, DePaul University
