Handling the Holiday Blues

At a time when everyone else seems to be expressing joy, the bereaved can be sad, alone, and face depression. This workshop will identify the key role that family and care providers have in the grief support during the holidays. Mr. Sewell will address certain topics, share stories, and give encouraging hope to those who are supporting the bereaved.
Objectives: After attending this workshop, the participant will be able to:
- Discover the many different kinds of sadness that the holidays bring those who suffer from loss, change, adversity, and transitions,
- Discover the scope of holiday grief and why it is challenging,
- Understand why challenges, adversity, and loss (especially during the holidays) can be overwhelming in bereavement settings,
- Give specific and practical support to those who currently suffering or those who are in the caregiving role of how to function during the holidays by offering 12 practical tips for overcoming the holiday blues.
Who Should Attend:
Social workers, psychologists, therapists, counselors and other mental health professionals, nurses and healthcare workers are invited to attend as well as the community.
Mental Health America of the Heartland is a pre-approved provider for social workers through the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board (BSRB) Provider Number 17-007. This continuing education provider is approved 1.5 hours for social workers and accepted for psychologists, professional counselors, masters prepared psychologists, marriage and family therapists and addiction counselors. For licensed professionals, please bring license # to the workshop to receive your CEU Certificate of Attendance.
A Certificate of Attendance of 1.5 CEU’s will be awarded to each participant.
